High Potassium Foods Exchanges in Chronic Kidney Disease “CKD’ Diet Option

When it comes to chronic kidney disease, there are quite a few things you have to be mindful of, such as monitoring the levels of potassium and phosphorous in your foods.

In this video, I discuss some popular foods that may not be the best for people trying to maintain a healthy kidney disease diet. Marinara sauce, which contains tomatoes is a popular accompaniment for pasta dishes, but the potassium in tomatoes may not be the best for your kidney health. Avocado is another delicious, yet high potassium food that you need to exercise caution with when you’re eating a chronic kidney disease diet.

If, for example, you have a higher potassium food at a meal (like tomatoes) then cut your potassium intake for the rest of the day/week. Of course, everybody is different, so be sure to only consume the foods that would be safe for your own unique level of kidney function.
