Can You Inherit Kidney Disease From Your Family?

Today’s video is in response to a question we received from one of our subscribers, “Is kidney disease hereditary?”

In a large majority of cases, kidney disease is not hereditary. Here in the US, the two biggest contributors to developing kidney disease are diabetes and high blood pressure. However, polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is hereditary and it can run in your family.

PKD is the most common type of kidney disease that is hereditary. It can come from genetic disorders and straight from your parent’s genes. Many studies also conclude that people in their forties and fifties are more likely to develop polycystic kidney disease.

With medications and lifestyle changes, you can effectively manage kidney disease. Following a proper renal diet and using supplements is a great way to improve your kidney health.
