What Fruits are Low in Phosphorus? What Fruits and Vegetables are Low in Phosphorus?
In today’s video we’re answering the question what fruits and vegetables are low in phosphorus?
Phosphorus— this mineral can become elevated in the body. It becomes high in kidney disease and when it becomes high, more problems happen including more bone problems. Also, kidney disease accelerates faster as a result of high phosphorus, so we do want to be mindful of phosphorus.
Always check your phosphorus level. As far as fruits and vegetables, the great thing about them is that they’re naturally low in phosphorus–all of them! There’s not a single high phosphorus fruit or vegetable because phosphorus generally comes from protein foods so that’s where you got to look for your phosphorus levels.
The phosphorus that comes from animal proteins is more easily absorbed than the phosphorus that comes from vegetable proteins like beans, nuts and seeds, and soy proteins. As far as fruits and vegetables you, don’t have to worry about phosphorus. You can have plenty of fruits and vegetables and you WANT to have plenty with kidney disease because of all the benefits. You don’t have to worry about that phosphorus level that comes from there. Instead you really got to look at the protein sources.
One thing you might need to be mindful about in fruits and vegetables is potassium levels. You may or may not have to limit potassium in your diet depending on your situation. However, most people can have plenty of fruits and vegetables with kidney disease and don’t need to worry about the phosphorus.
